The proof is in the discarded

One security scientist chose to discover what number of individuals make sure to erase their own data before giving over their old gadgets. Josh Frantz bought 85 gadgets from organizations that sold, restored, gave, and utilized PCs. He spent about $600 on a lot of work area and PCs, drives, memory cards, hard drives, and a couple of cellphones.

Frantz posted what he found on his rapid7 blog – and it was stunning! Of the 85 gadgets he purchased, just two were effectively cleaned. A large portion of the gadgets despite everything had huge amounts of data on them.

With assistance from a script he wrote, Frantz discovered 214,019 pictures, 148,903 messages, and 3,406 records. From all that, he had the option to see email addresses, dates of birth, Social Security numbers, and charge card numbers.

In the event that you wipe your gadget correctly, your information can still be discovered later on. Every one of those erased letters, money related accounts, and old photographs are still on your old gadgets. All it takes is a little know-how to recover them.

When a file is deleted, your operating system removes the file's link and marks the space as free. Until it's overwritten by new information, that file will still exist on your hard drive.

Erasing isn't Enough!

'DO NOT click the link'; Police warn of scam COVID-19 text messages

Police are warning cell phone users of a new text message scam during the coronavirus pandemic.

The Police Department in Colorado posted on Facebook a photo of the alert being sent to people in a text message.

The message was sent to someone in Maine from an Indiana area code telling them they need to self-isolate because they came in contact with someone who tested positive or has shown symptoms for coronavirus.

The alert also tells you to get tested.

"If you receive a text message like the one pictured, DO NOT click the link!" police wrote on Facebook. "It is not a message from any official agency. It is, however, a gateway for bad actors to find their way into your world."

Police said it could be a phishing scam to get your personal information.

"The virus is not the only invisible enemy," police said. "Be vigilant against all threats!"

The BBB said scammers have also been targeting seniors with text messages posing as the U.S. Department of Health, and telling them they need to take a mandatory online COVID-19 test in order to receive the recently approved government stimulus payment.
